My son starts planning what he wants for his next birthday cake the day after his birthday. This past year he went through dozens of cake ideas and finally set on a lizard cake...
I'll admit it turned out like a gecko, but my son loved it, and that's all that matters, right?
The best advice I can give for this cake is make sure to bake it a day or two ahead of time, let it cool, wrap it in plastic wrap and foil, and freeze it. This makes cutting it much easier!
I got the inspiration from The Frugal Girl, and the basic template for the head/body/tail from Cloth and Fodder.
Once I cut the head and body, I used the scraps to cut out legs. I attempted to cut toes, but they just crumbled. When the lizard was assembled, I covered it in white frosting to catch all the crumbs and stuck it back in the freezer for a bit.
Then I covered it in lots of green frosting. I added blue and yellow sprinkles on the back to give it more color and chocolate chips made perfect little eyes.
Hope you enjoy making your own lizard and/or gecko cake :).
