"The First Christmas Night" review & giveaway (ends 12/2/13)

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in hopes of a review on my blog. All opinions expressed are my own.

 I love having special books to pull out during the holidays to help reinforce in my children the reason we celebrate. "The First Christmas Night" by Keith Christopher and illustrated by Christine Kornacki is a perfect book to add to your bookshelf this holiday season!



This book is written for children ages 4-8, though the beautiful pictures and message are perfect for any age. The rhyming cadence is similar to the poem "The Night Before Christmas" and flows easily for the reader. The rhymes can help teach children early literacy skills, and I know how much my boys (ages 6 & 4) love to rhyme right now!

One of the first things I noticed when I opened this book are the illustrations. Christine Kornacki did a wonderful job portraying the baby Jesus with Mary and Joseph. The colors used, the faces of the family, and the general feel of the pictures and reverent and beautiful.

I'm excited to read this book to my boys this Christmas season! Every little thing that helps teach them the reason we celebrate on Christmas day is worth it. If you have young children, or nieces and nephews, this book is a good one to have on hand each December.

    We have a Christmas Book Basket that we add to each year. I would read to my 11 & 7 year old...but the 16 year old would read it 'to them' as well.
