If you are someone that loves an excuse to throw a party, loves entertaining or you’ve just moved somewhere where it’s easier to entertain than ever and you want to start, there’s so much you can do. Parties are a fantastic way of getting together family and friends and having a great time catching up. If you are looking to throw a get-together, you want to ensure it goes well and that requires some planning:

Come up with a theme

A theme is one of the most important things to consider when you are throwing a family party. Themes helped to tie it all together and make the party that bit more fun! You can go as OTT or as simple as you like and can ask everyone to dress up to the theme. You could do something such as a tropical theme, a winter wonderland, or something easy like a color combination such as black and gold. You can then theme the decor, food and drinks around this, with corresponding cocktails and things to eat. It makes for some great photo opportunities and is a fantastic way to get everyone together.

 Think about the food

The food is one of the most important aspects of your party and is something you want to think about ahead of time. There are a host of food options that you can choose between. You could opt for a cheese and wine night (with alcohol free options for those on babysitting or driving duty!) finger food, or put together a BBQ. Why not purchase a smoker to have an original twist on your dishes? Look for the best electric smoker that offers the chance to make a host of unique and delicious dishes. We just invested in a smoker this fall and have had a lot of fun trying different meats, rubs and techniques.

 Decide on the budget

Budget is another important part of planning for a party and you need to come up with something realistic. Party planning can soon add up, so by having a budget you can stop yourself going overboard. Think about everything that you will need to spend money on, from the food and decor, to if you want to hire a DJ or entertainment and drinks. You could save costs by asking everyone to bring a bottle or a dish of food, this can also be a real help in the organization part of party planning.

 Have a back up plan

Sometimes things just don’t go to plan with your party and you have to be able to adapt to that last minute. Maybe your entertainment doesn’t show up on the day, or perhaps someone has a dietary requirement they didn’t tell you about. It could be that the weather suddenly changes and you have to go from an outdoor BBQ to an indoor party. No matter what it is, try to think ahead and plan what you can do to avoid a potential disaster.

Decide the time you want to have it

The time you hold your party can play a big decision in its vibe. If you do it in the late morning it will be seen as more of a chilled, brunch event. The afternoon is also usually more chilled and you are more likely to have child guests. If you have your event in the evening, then it is likely to be more of an adult affair and there will probably be more drinking involved! Think about what vibe you are going for when you decide on the time and also what time will be convenient for the people you are inviting. You could always ask their opinions on what they think would be best before you throw out the invites. This can help make it that bit easier!

These are just a few things you need to think about the next time you throw a family party. Whether it is a birthday party, a Christmas get-together, a celebration for something or just an excuse to all catch up, family parties are great fun. It could be that you don’t get to all see each other that often and this provides an ideal chance for you to all see what has been going on in each other's lives.
