Dress Shirt to Doctor's Coat

When my daughter was 2, she loved Doc McStuffins, so I knew a doctor's costume would be perfect for Halloween for her. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a doctor's coat or lab coat, so I used one of my son's shirts to make her lab coat!

Even years later, she still fits in it and loves to dress up as a doctor! Here's how I did it:
  1. Choose a shirt that will be big enough for your little one after trimming off a bit (for bigger kids, hubby's old dress shirt might work). Cut off the bottom of the shirt in a straight line, and cut the cuffs off of the sleeves.

  2. If you want to keep the buttons, skip to the next step. I chose to remove the buttons, fold in the fabric so it was flush with the collar (on both the button side and the button-hole side), and sew it down.

  3. Hem the sleeves to your desired length, and hem the bottom of your lab coat.
  4. I used the leftover cuffs, and cut out a flat panel from each to sew onto the coat for pockets.

And there you have a homemade doctor's coat or lab coat for your aspiring little one. I got my inspiration from Making the World Cuter
