Fraying at the Edge Book Review

In case you can't tell, Amish books are one of my favorite genres. I love that they are clean, uplifting and I feel like I learn a lot about a culture that is otherwise foreign to me. Of all of the "Amish fiction" authors, I think Cindy Woodsmall is my favorite, and she did not disappoint with her new book "Fraying at the Edge".

(Disclosure: I received this book for the purpose of this review from Blogging for Books. All opinions expressed are my own.)

This was the second book in the Amish of Summer Grove series (Ties that Bind was the first). I was worried at first that I would have a hard time following the story line since it had been so long since I read the first book. However, Woodsmall did a wonderful job relating back to the story without leaving me feeling lost or overwhelmed as the reader.

In "Fraying at the Edge", the main characters Ariana and Skyler are experiencing life with their birth families after discovering that they were switched at birth. The entire book is about the adventures of an Amish woman (Ariana) learning how to use an electric stove and drive a car, while a Englisch woman (Skyler) learns how to cope with life without a phone, electricity, or her own bathroom. I couldn't put this book down and was finished far too quickly. I was left with many questions about the characters and relationships in this story, but I wasn't left feeling completely unresolved as some books in series tend to do. My only complaint is that I now have to wait for the third book to come out to see how the story ends!
