I've blogged about NMEDA before but wanted to share again a little about who they are. NMEDA stands for National Mobility Equipment Dealer Association, and they are a non-profit trade association that works to provide more opportunities for people with disabilities, to allow them to drive or be transported in vehicles which are modified with mobility equipment. NMEDA requires it's members to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations as well as follow its own set of guidelines ensuring safety and quality for vehicles modified for wheelchair accessibility.
For those with disabilities, they still have jobs, shopping to do, people to visit and haivng a wheelchair accessible vehicle is necessary to give them the most independence and allow them to get around easier. A vehicle that is not equipped properly can be a strain on those individuals and their caretakers who have to do a lot more lifting and straining to help people with disabilities into the vehicle. In today's world, transportation is crucial to be able to go anywhere and gives each of us the freedom we need/desire.
The Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is an accreditation program which promotes quality, safety and reliability within the industry. Some states require dealers to participate in the QAP to be able to work for the Vocation Rehabilitation Programs. QAP designations enhance vehicle modification and mobility equipment installation.
If you or someone you love is in need of a wheelchair accessible vehicle, please encourage them to visit a NMEDA QAP (Quality Assurance Program) Dealer for mobility solutions.
