I was at the store recently and saw a box of lacing cards which got me wondering how hard I would be to make some for my boys…turns out it’s pretty easy!
I printed off some simple vehicles and glued them to some cardboard (boy do we have lots of cardboard after just moving-and it seems to be multiplying!). My boys colored the pictures and I cut the cards out. Punch holes along the edge and set your kids to work lacing the cards with a shoelace and improving their hand-eye coordination…my 2 year old needed help pulling the lace through but enjoyed it for quite a while.
It took a while for my 4 year old to want to lace them but he eventually felt this activity was worthy of his time and laced up an entire card on his own. I think I’ll put these in the car for long trips!
I’ll be linking up to Link & Learn, What Are Little Boys Made Of?, It’s Playtime, Kids Get Crafty, Works For Me Wednesday, High Paw, Sunday Showcase and Preschool Corner Friday.
This is a lovely idea. And brilliant to add them to your travel bag. Isn't it fun to make something useful and save money at the same time? I love reading of your sweet momma love for your boys.
ReplyDeleteLove your idea!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. And I would love that for a car ride activity because it could keep the kids busy for a long time. Thanks for sharing.

These look great- I splurged and bought some a while ago because the ones Kate and I made were not such a success- good lacing K and C!

ReplyDeleteThese are so cool. A great way to teach them to tie their shoes too.
ReplyDeleteWha a great idea! And a great way to make sure you have images that appeal to your child's current favourites (i.e. trucks for boys is always good!!). Love it!
