“The Harvest of Grace” Book Review

Sylvia Fisher is one of the many daughters of an Amish farmer and despite her great skill in caring for the farm, she has little respect or status in her father’s eyes. After being betrayed by the man she loved, she leaves home to work on another farm. There, she meets Aaron who has gone through struggles of his own to overcome alcoholism. Though they have opposite goals on the farm, their problems seem to draw them together. Sylvia meets friends and learns to trust and love for the first time in her life in this simple, heartwarming book.

I have always been fascinated by other cultures and was for a time going to study anthropology in college, so I was thrilled with the chance to read The Harvest of Grace by Cindy Woodsmall. Woodsmall’s books are set in Amish country and are about a lifestyle so unfamiliar to many of us that is seems enchanting and mysterious. The Harvest of Grace is a book in her Hope of Refuge series. Many of the characters in this book continue developing relationships that had started in previous books of the series. Woodsmall does a wonderful job filling any reader in who hasn’t read or may have forgotten what happened in previous books and it definitely made me want to go pick up the preceding books! I loved this book from cover to cover and appreciated the clean writing used. Two thumbs up!

This book was provided to me by WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for free in exchange for my open and honest review. All opinions stated herein are mine.

  1. Many of the gals at Church are so into these Amish stories. I haven't read any of them yet. Not really my cup of tea but EVERYBODY is into them. Perhaps I should give one a go?
