Book Review: The Dragon and the Turtle…

Any book that gets both of my boys to sit on my lap while I read every single word from the story is already a shew in for bonus points in our home. “The Dragon and the Turtle go on Safari” is no exception.

Padraig the Dragon and Roger the Turtle decide to go on safari and camp out overnight. All night long, the characters try to overcome their fears as noises startle them throughout the night. This is a classic story that I can imagine any group young boys who decide to camp outside might experience…noises in the night, imaginations getting the best of them…etc.

My only complaint with this book is that, though I understand a lot of the pictures are a result of the character’s imaginations, there is no way my young children can comprehend why the pictures look like that. K will not let me turn the page until I have adequately explained something to him, and honestly, I have no idea why a raccoon has an elephant trunk on one of the pages. Maybe I’ve lost my imagination?

Thankfully the pictures are entertaining enough that my boys really enjoyed this book. I can only imagine that as they get older, this book will take on new meaning and they will be able to enjoy it in new ways.

I would like to thank WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group who provided me with this book for free in exchange for this review.
