Felt Strawberries

I finally caved…after seeing adorable felt food on the blogosphere for I don’t know how long, I couldn’t resist anymore. I even asked for felt for Christmas.

Since K devours strawberries like crazy, I figured that would be a good place to start. The wonderful thing about felt food, and especially strawberries because they aren’t very big is that they can be sewn by hand!DSCN4813
All you need is:
  • Red felt
  • Green felt
  • Thread
  • A needle
  1. Cut a circle measuring between 3-4 inches wide out of the red felt.DSCN4782
  2. Cut the circle in half…this will make two strawberries. DSCN4783
  3. Fold the half circle in half DSCN4784
  4. and sew along the edge (either by hand or machine), forming a cone.DSCN4785
  5. Turn your cone inside out to hide the seam.DSCN4787
  6. Along the mouth of the cone, sew a gathering stitch by hand with a good length of thread.DSCN4789
  7. Stuff some poly-fil or other stitching inside and pull the gathering threads tight. Tie the threads off but do not cut them.DSCN4791
  8. Take the needle across the opening from where it was tied off and pull it tight. DSCN4792
  9. Continue sewing the opening together by making a spider-web type stitch and pulling it tight. Tie the thread off but do not cut it if possible.  DSCN4798
  10. Cut out leaves from the green felt. DSCN4799
  11. Sew the leaves to the top of the strawberries. DSCN4802
  12. Tack each of the inside corners of the leaves to the strawberry. DSCN4803
  13. Using two strands of embroidery thread, Sew small stitches randomly across the strawberry to make the seeds. Add as many or as few as you desire. DSCN4807
Hand over these delicacies to your kiddos and laugh when they take their first bite…then play with them.DSCN4810 Thank you Bread & Buttons for the inspiration!

  1. What a fun idea!

Thanks for the encouragement -- my daughter knows a few signs, but won't use them consistently. I just need to be consistent no matter what!
