My husband was convinced that my enthusiastic goodbye kiss as he walked out the door the day this arrived had nothing to do with him…to which I say I love my husband! My boys were pretty excited about the package too!
Each year my grandpa and I would bake pumpkin pies together. Each year he would regale me with tales of his youth as I measured, poured and mixed, and when those pies came out of the oven, he would taste them and exclaim that I had once again baked to perfection. Since the last time I baked pies with him, I have never been able to make a pumpkin pie just right.
Along with pumpkin pies on Christmas and Thanksgiving, Mom’s Apple Pie is a must have at our table!
Pillsbury encouraged those of us who received a package to visit an orchard with our families, but due to a death in the family and spending a good portion of October out of town, I took K to our local grocery store where I taught him how to choose good apples and we were able to talk about where apples come from and how trees grow.
Though K didn’t help me cut, measure or pour, he stood by me and washed all the dishes I dirtied and we were able to enjoy some time together. I hope as he grows older, that pie making can become one of our traditions, and I can continue the legacy my grandfather left by retelling his marvelous stories of serving our great countries aboard a ship during WWII, or the lessons he learned.
Would you like to win one of these marvelous packages provided by Pillsbury? Included in the package is an apple shaped cutting board, and apple shaped timer, an apple slicer, a magnificent measuring set (1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 and 1 cup measurements!), a pie plate, a hot pad, and a coupon for free pie crusts!
If you don’t want to wait for the giveaway, you can download a coupon for $0.50 off a package of Pillsbury pie crusts here.

We love to go apple picking multiple times during the season as a family. Then we come home and I bake apple crisp, apple pie, applesauce, and all sorts of other apple goodies. And the kids can eat all the apples they want, which they love! We also go to the annual county fair - something I did with my family growing up and now I share with my own children!
