DIY Pack & Play Fitted Sheet

I love Pack & Plays, or little port a cribs! It means I can take my baby anywhere and have a safe place for him to sleep. We're getting ready for a trip in the near future, on which our Pack & Play will be joining us, but I didn't have a fitted sheet!

If you have the same problem, here's a quick, and surprisingly simple way to fix your dilemma:

Side note: Please do not implicate me on my terrible choice in fabric...I've forbidden myself from buying any fabric until I use a good portion of my stash, and the fabric I used here was given to me years ago.

To start off, measure the pad or mattress of your Pack & Play. I have no idea if these are standard between all the different brands, but mine measured 38 x 27 inches. (I told you the fabric was ugly)

Measure your fabric, adding 4 inches to each side. So, my fabric ended up measuring 42 x 31 inches.
On each corner cut out a 2 x 2 inch square.
Put the edges of each square right side together and sew along that seam, closing the square and creating the corner that will go under your mattress. Use a zig zag stitch between your seam and straight stitch to prevent fraying.
Finish off the seams all the way around your sheet. You can use a serger, or fold the fabric over twice, each time a quarter of an inch. Cut out four pieces of elastic, about 9 inches long. On each corner, measure in from the corner 8 inches and start sewing one piece of elastic there using a wide zig zag stitch. As the machine feeds the fabric through, stretch the elastic as much as you can. This will pucker the corners and make your sheet fitted.
My Pack & Play has two velcro straps that are attached to the mattress. These feed through a hole in the Pack & Play and attach underneath so the child inside can't pull up the mattress and suffocate themselves. If yours has straps like this, put the sheet on the mattress and mark with chalk where the straps are. Sew a button hole the length of your mark, and open using a seam ripper (carefully so you don't rip through). Admire your work and leave the Pack & Play set up just to show off what you made to your husband when he gets home from work...:) Oh, maybe that's just me.
