Taggie Cubes

I am falling in love with all things Taggie! They are so much fun to make, and great for babies because they are easy to grab and throw. DSCN3318
I decided to make a cube as well as the Taggie ball and here’s how I did it:
Cut out 6 squares. Just cut however big you want it to be. I used corduroy for two of the sides for the texture…scrap fabric is great for these!DSCN3302
Cut your coordinating ribbons…mine were about 3 inches long.
On two matching pieces of your fabric, arrange and baste your ribbons (folded in half) on the right side of the fabric, along the edges using a zig zag close to the edge to keep those ribbons secure.DSCN3309
Sew the four other squares to each side of one of your squares that already has ribbon sewn to it. Sew the last piece onto the other side of one of your squares, giving you a T shape. If this is confusing, hopefully the numbers in the picture below will help. DSCN3310
Baste ribbons onto the sides of numbers 3 and 4, but not the outside edge.
Now sew the top and bottom of your T together, right sides together. In my case, number 2 and number 6. You will now have a box with the ends open. DSCN3311
Sew one end closed, and sew the other end closed, leaving a gap large enough to turn your cube right side out.DSCN3314
Turn right side out and use a pen cap or something pointy to poke out all of the corners for a nice, crisp look.DSCN3315
Stuff your cube and hand sew the opening shut using a ladder stitch or a whip stitch.DSCN3316
Give that cube to a perfectly chubby little baby and watch them have a ball…er, cube :)
For some other adorable cubes, check out the Cute Crinkle Cube from Super Stinky Boys, the Taggie Soft Block from Sew Incredibly Crafty (My inspiration…Thank You!), and Cloth Blocks from Make It and Love It. I love being able to see different variations and usually combine all of them into my own creation…that’s the great thing about blogging and the internet!

  3. These are so cute! Isn't it funny how babies love those little tags. :) This doesn't even look to hard--I bet I could do it, and I am not a sewer! I'll have to save it for next time I need a baby gift, because it seems like all my friends are having babies! :)

P.S. I saw your post on Skip to my Lou and jumped over to take a look. :)

  5. Try sewing in few sheets of scrunched up wax paper on the sides...makes a great home made "crinkle" toy!
