Toddler Belt

K is tiny. Tiny as in at over 3 years old, he still fits into 18 month pants. I get asked if my boys are twins because they are close enough to the same size.
Those 18 month pants are getting a little short, but anything bigger hangs off his hips and he’s always pulling them up. My solution? Make him a belt. These can be hand or machine sewn. I sewed mine by hand just to see if I could, and you can!
All you need is:

• Nylon belting; 1 inch wide. I wrapped mine around K’s waist and added enough to fold back 7 inches to give room for growth…if he ever does :)
• One 1 inch D ring.
• Sew on velcro
• Lighter or match
• Needle and thread or sewing machine.

1. Cut the belting to desired length. Mine is 28 inches long. Round one end so it can feed through belt loops easier. Hold a lighter close enough to the ends of the belt to melt them so they won’t fray. Hold it there only long enough to see the edges barely melt.
2. Loop the end of the belt through the D ring and fold over about an inch. Sew securely by hand or with machine. 3. On the rounded end, sew about 4 inches of the hook side (or pokey side) of the velcro onto your belt. 4. Place about 10 inches of the loop side (or soft side) of velcro flush with the hook side, and sew on. Done! K loves this. He searches his drawer every morning for pants with belt loops so he can wear his belt. The velcro is easy for him to undo (crucial with potty training!), and he can even hook the belt through the D ring on his own. The end can fold back over the belt loops to make it even easier for kids to undo and I can hardly see the extra velcro there. Super easy!

PS I learned through this belt that my head is bigger than K’s waist. I would have never thought…but then I’m horrible at proportions! Why did I learn this? My dear husband thought I was making a headband.
