DIY Mute Your Kid's Toys

Can you imagine how loud these toys can be? Especially when they are both making noise at the same time? If you're a parent of young children, I'm almost positive you can. Noisy toys have become a part of almost every child's life!

I remember reading an article on how the amount of noisy toys that children have now can affect their hearing loss, especially when exposed to these toys over long periods of time. When I find the article, I will post it here.

For this reason, and because I can handle only so much of constant noise, I found the perfect way to mute the toys my kids play with! Simply cut a piece of clear packing tape to the size of the speakers, and place it over the speaker. It is also helpful to round the corners of the tape so it doesn't snag on anything.

It is amazing what a difference it makes in the noise level of these toys. C does not even notice the tape, and K understands that it is "fixing" the toy, and has left the tape alone on all of the toys I have put it on. The kids can still hear the toys while playing with them, but now I can't hear them in the other room. Hooray for sanity!

  1. Hi there! Niki here, stopping over from WFMW. I just wanted to pop in and check out your blog. I like what I see so far.

Stop by my blog, Free 2 Be Frugal, when you get a chance!

I am a preschool teacher and I just take all the batteries out of the toys. We are a battery-free zone there.

  2. I do this too, it's wonderful for sanity! If I find it's too muted, I just poke a few holes in the tape with a toothpick.

  3. This is brilliant! I never even thought of that! I usually just "deal with it" but soon all of our toys will be "fixed"! LOL
