Sewing Machines

I need some advice.
My poor little Brother sewing/embroidery machine is broken beyond reasonably priced repair and now I'm in the market for a new one. The problem with this one is that the plate has gone askew and if I do anything but straight stitch, the needle hits the plate and breaks. I can do several things with just straight stitch, but for some things it just won't do.
Has anyone else had this trouble with their Brother machine?
Does anyone else have good recommendations for an affordable, no fuss machine that would last until we're done living off loans? We still have 2 1/2 years until my husband finishes law school.

  1. I know that Walmart has inexpensive sewing machines, but they'll be basic ones.
Have you tried setting the plate back where it's supposed to be? Basic cleaning ant maintenance can be done at home....maybe you just didn't tighten the screws all the way?? Read through your manual and see what you can do about it? just a suggestion to try to save you money.

  2. oh, and if you can't fix it yourself and have no money, I have a sewing machine you could have. I got it in highschool, so it's kinda old, but it still works perfectly.
